Which type of window is best for my home?

Ranging from the old and classic to the ultra-chic and everything in between, Greater Manchester and the surrounding areas are home to an eclectic mixture of properties. With so many different property styles, however, knowing which type of window is best for your home can be difficult. Therefore, we thought we would look at some of the different properties in the area and suggest some replacement window options for each of them.

Conservation area homes – Residence 9 windows

If you live in the Blackburn Park Area of Didsbury, the Egerton Road area in Stockport, or one of the many other conservation areas in and around Greater Manchester, chances are you might be limited for window choices. The architectural style of your home is also likely to be quite historic, hence why planning restrictions are in place. However, Residence 9 windows have flush window sashes and a 19th-century timber window design. As a result, they are regularly approved for use in conservation areas. Plus, they are some of the best performing timber effect windows available.

Terraced properties – uPVC casement windows

Greater Manchester is famous for its vast number of redbrick properties, many of which you will find dotted around Tameside, Stretford, Hulme, and numerous other areas in the form of terraced homes. In most cases, you will find them fitted with white uPVC casement windows, so you cannot go wrong with like-for-like replacements.

However, to help your home stand out, you could opt for another of our numerous other colour options. To give your home a more modern feel whilst retaining the traditional layout of uPVC casement windows, you could even opt for slimline aluminium windows.

Victorian, Georgian, and other period properties – Sliding sash windows

You are likely to find Victorian and Georgian style, and other period homes, like the ones you find on Platt Lane in Manchester, or Mottram Road in Stalybridge, fitted with sliding sash windows. An instantly recognisable style of window, the original ones were built from timber. However, we have uPVC versions available which recreate their appearance to the finest detail.

Another option you might consider is uPVC casement windows with mock sash horns. These open outward like normal windows but the mock sash horns give them the appearance of classic sash windows.

Modernist or art-deco style homes – Aluminium windows

Modernist architecture emphasises minimalist design. Therefore, windows with slimmer frames and more glazing are perfect for this architectural style. To do this, we recommend aluminium windows because aluminium’s wonderful strength allows their frames to be built ultra-slim.

Adding horizontal glazing bars to aluminium windows is also ideal for art deco or industrial style homes and apartments.
