Can I paint my front door?

This will depend on the material that your front door is built from. If you have a uPVC or composite front door, we would advise that you do not repaint it because any DIY paint job will not be able to last as long.

uPVC doors are sprayed with coatings that have been specially designed for use on uPVC, in order to ensure the finish will last. For composite doors, the colour is incorporated right the way through their Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) skins. Again, this is done to ensure for a long-lasting finish.

If you have a wooden front door, however, these are designed to be retreated/repainted. So, you can go ahead and paint them as you see fit.

Should I choose French doors or patio doors?

If you prefer a more traditional design, French doors might better meet your visual requirements. They also tend to take up less wall space than patio doors, but because they open inwards and outwards, they require more floor space to be operated.

Patio doors, on the other hand, tend to require more wall space, although this does mean a larger glass area and slightly increased light intake. As you slide them to the side, however, they don’t take up any floor space to open.

What doors can be fitted with smart locks?

Here at Droylsden Glass, we are one of a few installers who can offer our customers the exclusive Kubu Equipped Door Lock, an innovative smart lock from Avantis. If you’re interested in smart door locking technology, we install Kubu locks on our:

What sizes do doors come in?

We understand that every job is unique and so we do not offer standard door sizes. An adept member of the Droylsden Glass team will perform an assessment of your property to determine the size of door that you require before it is made to measure.

How much do new doors cost?

New doors do not have a set price. Instead, the cost for a new door is affected by a number of factors such as:

  • The type of door
  • The door’s style
  • The material the door is built from
  • The door’s glazing
  • The door’s furniture

Do you install doors that are suitable for disabled access?

If you require disabled access, we’re able to fit our doors with a low threshold. This will allow for wheelchair access and make it easier to move between the inside and outside of your home.

How can I tell if a door is secure?

For starters, it will be fitted with a range of impressive security hardware, although this will vary depending on the type of door. For entrance doors, you should look out for multipoint locks and high-quality locking cylinders like the Ultion locking cylinders that we use on our composite doors. For bifold and patio doors, look out for internal glazing beads as these will prevent the glass from being removed externally.

Accreditations are another indication of whether or not a door is secure. PAS24 accreditation is a British Standard that indicates an enhanced security performance, so be sure to look out for it when buying a new door.

What colour options are there for doors?

There are different colour options for different materials, although you will always have plenty of choice when it comes to the finish. All of our aluminium door options are available in any RAL colour along with woodgrain, matte, anodised and durable Coatex finishes so there is a huge number of possibilities for them.

Our uPVC doors also come in a wide number of colours and woodgrain effect finishes. The exteriors of our composite doors are designed to emulate a woodgrain effect as standard, although there is plenty of options when it comes to their colour.

DoorCo composite doors can also be specified in your choice from 150 RAL colours.

Can composite doors be fitted with a cat or dog flap?

Yes, they can. However, if this is something that you require, this should be specified before the door is sent off to the manufacturer to be built. Once the door is fitted, we would strongly advise against retrofitting a cat or dog flap.

Here at Droylsden Glass, we offer standard composite doors along with premium variants from Rockdoor and Solidor. All of them can be fitted with a cat or dog flap if desired.
