If you're considering getting a new conservatory installed, you may be wondering about planning permissions. As of 2019, planning regulations were relaxed so that more property owners are able to extend their home without having to apply for planning permissions. However, there are certain criteria that needs to be followed.
Single story extensions are covered by these new permitted rights as long as the extension doesn’t exceed the original home by more than 3m on attached properties. For detached homes, the extension shouldn’t extend the rear of the original home by more than 4m.
There are however some exceptions to the regulations, such as properties based in conservation areas which have stricter building regulations. If you are unsure about the planning permissions for your specific property, our experts will be able to provide tailored advice and guidance and let you know the best glazed extension solution for your home.

Yes, a conservatory requires foundations to be built properly and safely. The type of foundation needed will depend on the size, weight, and design of the conservatory, as well as the type of ground it will be built on.
In general, there are two types of foundations used for conservatories: shallow foundations and deep foundations.
In the UK, the maximum size of a conservatory that can be built without planning permission depends on various factors. Generally, if you own a detached house, the conservatory can be up to 4 meters in depth from the original rear wall of the house and up to 8 meters in width. For semi-detached or terraced houses, the conservatory can be up to 3 meters in depth from the original rear wall of the house and up to 6 meters in width.
